Facebook, Twitter and Website for Dentists, do they really work?
I am sure you have heard the buzz. The dental practice in the neighborhood has a Facebook Page and a Twitter Profile. But do they get new patients from it? I was told once by a dentist I have a Facebook Page but I don’t get any result. Well, the short answer is having a Facebook page or a Twitter profile is similar to having a website. Do you get new patients just by having a website? What is the use of having a website, Facebook Page or Twitter Profile if nobody visits it? I explain.
A Facebook Fan Page for dental practice, A Twitter Profile for dentist and a dental website are just the basics you should have before you can conduct any marketing campaign. They are showcases of your practice. If you have good showcases and if prospective patients visit them, then those visits will convert to real patients that will fill your empty seats. So they are two important elements:
1- Having well designed and developed showcases (Facebook Fan Page, Twitter Profile, Website)
2- Having right marketing campaigns targeted at bringing traffic to your showcases.
Let’s take a deeper look at each element having Facebook Page for a Dental Practice as our example:
1- A good Facebook page:
- Is well designed.
- Has attractive photos and videos.
- Is easy to use and navigate.
- Is bug-free. All of the pages work properly.
- Has easy to understand information
- Information communicates a sense of professionalism
- Too much information should be avoided
- Too little information should be avoided
- The contact page or information is highly visible and accessible to prospective patient
- Is interactive and alive.
I will explain more about interactivity. If it is a website then you should have an active blog with regular posts and you should be responsive to comments. If it is a Facebook Page or Twitter Profile you should have regular updates, information and promotions for patients. You should answer to the questions and comments on-time. Here are some of the other elements of the right Twitter or Facebook Dental Marketing Campaigns:
2- A good marketing campaign:
- Identifies the prospective patients in the area.
- Initiates the contact to the targeted prospective.
- Keeps the professionalism at all times.
- Doesn’t push people for a decision rather is helpful.
- Has continuity in communication.
- Considers human factor and is reviewed by humans rather than computer software and bots.
- Directs the prospect to call your office and schedule an appointment.
It is important to understand that after having a well-designed Facebook Fan Page or Twitter Profile, you should find and target prospective patients and guide them to visit your pages and consecutively call your practice. Also it is important that you keep the communication with them. Last time I checked the Twitter profiles of many dental practices managed by so-called social media marketing companies was last week and I found very few that were reviewed by anything rather than software. No wonder they don’t work! If you want your prospect to convert to real patient, it needs human attention.
The ultimate goal here is to get the prospects to call the number and schedule an appointment with your dental practice. There are many techniques that are used to analyze and find the local prospective patients, target them and convert them to an effective lead, for example in Twitter you can find and follow local people that tweet about their tooth pain. You can use the same tactic and many other marketing tactics for Facebook Dental Marketing as well.
